A West Coast Weekend

Canadian Princess Resort - September 25, 2013

This weekend is the last weekend that the Canadian Princess Resort will be open for fishing and whale watching trips this season.  Although the summer rush has come and gone, there are still plenty of opportunities to catch salmon and halibut, and to see a Humpback whale out there too.

We have reports of Coho salmon coming in regularly.  Success has been found out at Big Bank and other offshore banks.  However, last week we found we didn’t have to go that far to catch some fish!  There is also a run of Coho coming through Barkley Sound, making their way back to local waterways to spawn.  Good sized Coho are being reeled in not too far from the mouth of the Ucluelet Harbour.

September weather has been fantastic and makes any trip to the west coast more enjoyable.  Visit us this weekend, head out on one last fishing trip and fill your freezer with fish for the upcoming winter.  While you are in Ucluelet, enjoy the other activities the beautiful west coast of Vancouver Island has to offer:

  • Take a walk on the Wild Pacific Trail.  This world renowned trail skirts the jagged shoreline of the wild Pacific Ocean.  Walk along cliff-top trails, wander through old rainforest trees twisted by the marine weather, and stop at a viewpoint bench to take in some of the most breathtaking scenery on the coast.  The Wild Pacific Trail is accessible from Ucluelet.
  • Visit the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve.  This has been called the ‘gem of Vancouver Island’.  After your morning of fishing, take a picnic lunch and relax on the beach.  Florencia Bay, Wickaninnish Beach and Long Beach are all a short drive from Ucluelet.
  • Visit Ucluelet’s local shops and galleries.  This part of the world seems to draw in artistic talent from the rest of the country!  Browse through artisan shops filled with art, photography, pottery, handmade jewellery, locally designed clothing, First Nations carvings, and tapestries.  Pick up the perfect souvenirs and experience part of Ucluelet’s unique coastal culture.

The best place to finish a busy day on the west coast is on board the Canadian Princess.  Join us for drink and food specials and unwind after a full day of fishing and fun.  Our menu offers hearty meals including seafood dishes, old-time favourites, and delicious desserts.  Relax on the deck of the ship and enjoy the view of Ucluelet’s Small Craft Harbour.

We can’t wait to see you this weekend.

Tight Lines!
