Dock Talk

Catching Limits & Having Fun

Canadian Princess Resort - July 9, 2013

Every morning our fleet of Delta Cruisers disembark from the Canadian Princess dock. They sneak out of the Inner Boat Basin in the quiet of morning and make their way to the mouth of the Ucluelet Harbour as the first rays of sun try to peak out over Mount Ozzard. Fishermen and fisherwomen sip coffee out of their to-go mugs and enjoy the peaceful scenery knowing that a full morning of fishing is before them.

Once the boats are passed the harbour the engines are fired up and depending on fishing and weather reports, they are off to the banks for salmon and halibut fishing! Our Skippers work with each other and other local fishing charters to ensure guests are taken to the most productive fishing grounds. This month has been exceptionally successful for fishing.

“We sold every spot available this morning,” said Deborah Anne, Front Desk Manager at the Canadian Princess Resort. “Skipper Lynette limited out on hali by 10AM! We have a full 22 person Bottom Fishing trip out and a Whale Watching trip out as well!” She was referring to all the action we saw over the weekend.

Every morning we also wave goodbye to our fleet of Boston Whaler Outrages. These small 20 footers can navigate some more ‘hard to reach’ fishing spots and spend time in Barkley Sound as well as offshore banks in favourable weather.

The Burgess Family was visiting the Canadian Princess Resort for the first time, visiting us from Alberta. Jeff Burgess caught a 20lbs halibut and Kelly Burgess landed a 14lbs-01oz AND a 16lbs-09oz salmon. They told us that that their wives were fishing in Edmonton, but the boys decided to go fishing instead! They were quite pleased with their choice and we are too!

The Delta Cruisers had an amazing haul that day as well. All the fish were processed, bagged and tagged. The weekend is coming up – who wants to go fishing?
