Canadian Princess Resort - May 27, 2013
We had some beautiful sunny weather over the weekend. The docks were busy with fishing trips and whale watching trips coming and going. Wildlife reports came back with sightings of Gray whales and lots of sea lions! On Saturday a Canadian Princess Resort staff fishing trip went out to the Long Beach bank.
They caught a lot of salmon and two were able to register their fish in the Ucluelet Salmon Ladder Derby. The derby contenders included catches by Peter Desserud and Skipper Keith Nakagawa. Here is our Skipper with his 14lbs-13oz catch.
By participating in the Ucluelet Salmon Ladder Derby you are helping to raise funds and awareness for salmon enhancement on the west coast. Proceeds from your derby ticket benefit local enhancement projects, specifically the Thornton Creek Hatchery located just 10km outside of Ucluelet in Port Albion.
The weather will be less than favourable over the next couple of days with rain and a gale warnings in affect for today increasing to 40 knots with swells up to 3 metres by this afternoon. It's supposed to die down a little bit for tomorrow and eventually clear to partically sunny skies by this weekend.
We will have to keep our eyes on the wind, but the good news is that fish bite rain or shine!
