Derby Contenders on a Boston Whaler

Canadian Princess Resort - August 16, 2013

“It was my first time on the Whaler and I look forward to coming back next year. I will book a Whaler charter again. That’s the way to go!”

Mike and Jacob Sea from Washington were fishing on a special Grandfather-Grandson fishing trip on the Whaler 3. Jacob had the Catch of the Day two days in a row. One of those fish weighed 19lbs-12oz and was registered into the Ucluelet Salmon Ladder Derby. Mike also landed a derby contender and registered his 18lbs-06oz Chinook salmon in the derby as well.

“I was here three years ago,” said Michael. “This was the first time taking my grandson with me fishing and the very first time fishing for Jacob.”

It looks like Jacob got the hang of it pretty quickly! Jacob’s fish was big enough to get him on the 47th place on the ladder for the month of August. If he can stay in the top 65 until the end of the month he will be invited to the official Fish Off on the Labour Day long weekend. There are plenty of opportunities to win major cash and prizes during this fishing event, including the chance to participate in the $250,000 Hidden Weight Grand Prize challenge. Good luck Jacob!

The Delta Cruisers did well too. Randy Martinez landed a 25lbs-05oz Chinook salmon out at Big Bank aboard the Salmon Princess with Skipper Keith. In total he caught this salmon, two wild coho salmon, and a halibut.

“The staff at the Princess take good care of us,” shared Randy. “We have our own boat so coming here is a real treat when we don’t have to do all the work!”

Randy and his wife Irene travel all the way from Trinidid, California to fish with the Canadian Princess Resort and they’ve been doing so since 1990. In fact, this was Randy’s SIXTH Catch of the Day with the Canadian Princess Resort. They’ve also been to the Charlotte Princess where he caught a 106lbs halibut and a 46lbs salmon. That’s incredible!

We have another weekend of great fishing before us. We hope to see you on the water!
