From the Kootenay's to the Coast

Canadian Princess Resort - August 31, 2012

I was watching the boats from the shore yesterday.  Sport fishing boats trolled back and forth along the west coast of Ucluelet’s peninsula.  One of them must have been the Boston Whaler Outrage #3.  Roger Leroux landed yesterday’s salmon Catch of the Day off of Little Beach fishing with Skipper Chris.

The fish weighed in at 20lbs and Roger said the experience of reeling it in could have been the highlight of this fishing trip.  This family hails from the Kootenay’s and fishing on the ocean is a special treat for these land locked anglers.  They’ve traded in grizzlies and mountain marmots for whales, sea lions, and a whole lot of fish!

The total haul from the family included 4 Chinooks, 2 rock cod, and 1 lingcod.  That sounds like a pretty successful day out on the water!

The weather for the long weekend is looking good.  Saturday and Sunday will have a mix of sun and cloud with highs around 17 degrees Celsius.  Sunshine and a high of 19 is forecasted for holiday Monday.  Tomorrow the winds are blowing northwest 15 to 20 knots, diminishing to 5 knots in the late afternoon.  Sunday’s marine forecast is similar and the wind will pick up on Monday blowing northwest 20 to 30 knots and increasing late in the day to 30 to 35 knots.

Gone Fishing,
