A young boy watched his older brother get a fishing rod for his birthday. He looked at the gift with awe, and when no one was around...he knew what to do! He took his brother’s fishing rod and ran down to the nearby pond.
“I put a worm on the hook and caught a catfish,” Mike Revenberg told our dock staff this afternoon. “Since then I’ve been hooked!”
Mike and his girlfriend are visiting from Campbell River, and although they have been salt water fishing in Campbell River and Nootka Sound, it was the first visit to Ucluelet. They were aboard the Nootka Princess with Skipper Lynette. His girlfriend caught herself a decent sized rockfish, and Mike hooked a beautiful Chinook salmon. The fish made him work for it, putting up a good fight and demanding a bit of effort at the reel.
“I think I had to get it up from the very bottom,” said Mike. When the fish finally came to the surface Mike told us that it “danced across the water.”
Mike’s fish was registered in the Ucluelet Salmon Ladder Derby. It weighed in at 14lbs-09oz. Congratulations!
Bad weather blew in for most of today with many of our guests taking shelter in the restaurant and lounge after the fishing charters came in this afternoon. A little rain isn’t going to stop Mike from fishing as his party is heading out tomorrow morning on a Boston Whaler Outrage charter.
At least this time he won’t have to steal his brother’s fishing rod!
