Congratulations to Mike Poulos for catching a fish in the Ucluelet Salmon Ladder Derby!
This season-long event runs until September that offers monthly cash and prizes to top fish. The top 15 fish caught each month along with the top 65 of the entire summer qualify for a big Fish Off event on the Labour Day long weekend. The Ucluelet Salmon Ladder Derby also supports local salmon enhancement projects, with all net proceeds going towards this cause. Make sure you purchase your derby ticket the front desk before heading out on your fishing trip with the Canadian Princess Resort.
Mike and his son Marcus are visiting us from Bellingham, Washington. They were on a long all-day trip (11 hours!) and caught this beauty at South Bank at a depth of 15 feet. That is very shallow to catch a salmon. His fish weighed 13lbs-01oz.
We had another massive halibut come in over the weekend. Craig Robinson hauled in a 36lbs-02 slab, landing him the Catch of the Day. We love seeing these fish on the scales!
The offshore banks have been firing over the last few days. South Bank, Big Bank, and Rats Nose have been producing salmon and halibut alike. Our Skippers work together to find the best fishing grounds and will take you fishing where the bite is on. There is good fishing in Barkley Sound too, with all of the usually spots producing salmon in the 15-25lbs range. These protected waters are ideal for afternoon Bottom Fishing trips as well as charters aboard one of our Boston Whaler Outrages.
