Predictions for 2014

Canadian Princess Resort - October 29, 2013

We are very excited for the 2014 season.  Early predictions indicate a strong season for all five salmon species in the Pacific Rim region, especially for sockeye salmon.  This year Barkley Sound and the Port Alberni inlet welcomed a very high population of returning sockeye.  High returns one year often reflects on the numbers for the following year.  In addition to this prediction reports show that ocean conditions have been favourable, mortality rates low, and there has been an abundance of food sources for all five species of salmon in the Pacific Northwest.  This is very good news for the avid angler!

Sockeye fishing can be a very fun experience, especially with a prediction of high numbers in our local waters.  If you’re interested in fishing for sockeye next season, the best time to book your fishing charter is between mid-June into the first week of August.  Book your private fishing charter aboard a Boston Whaler Outrage and start making memories.

The weather has been phenomenal in Ucluelet over the last week.  Although the salt water sport fishing season is over for many of the fishing guides on the west coast of Vancouver Island, including the Canadian Princess Resort, a few local boats have been seen out on the water taking advantage of calm seas and sunny skies.  Locals are reporting a decent production of coho from Barkley Sound.  These chum salmon are late returning to their spawning grounds.  They are also reporting chum salmon coming into Barkley Sound in recent days as well.

The Canadian Princess Resort offers a wide variety of that include a combination of fly-in or drive-in options, fishing on a Delta Cruiser or Boston Whaler, whale watching and accommodation packages.  We invite you to join us in 2014 for another amazing season of fishing, whale and wildlife watching, breathtaking coastal scenery and a vibrant west coast culture.
