2009 Vancouver Island Fishing Outlook

Canadian Princess Resort - May 22, 2009

The forecast for the 2009 season looks great for all types of fishing on the west coast of Vancouver Island.

Chinook this year will be more plentiful and larger than the past few years. So far no changes to catch limits this year with the salmon in our area.

Coho are due to open on June. We will be able to keep more Coho this year as the hatchery has marked approximately 80% of the Cohos released. In the past it was only around 20%. DFO has pedicted a very large run of Coho swimming through our waters this summer.

We did a test fish this last Saturday and netted 14 Chinook salmon ranging from 10-14 lbs and several Ling cod, the biggest being 21 lbs.

We look forward to seeing you later this summer for some fabulous fishing adventures.

Tight lines and fish on!
