Derin Craig Memorial Derby

Canadian Princess Resort - July 4, 2011

It was a bluebird day today when the Derin Craig Memorial Derby presented their awards after two days of fishing. The founder of the derby Clay Johnston has been coming to the Canadian Princess for the past 5 years along with about 50 others. It was only established as the Darin Craig memorial two years ago when Derin Craig who was a guide on our partner resort the Salmon Seeker passed away.
This year the derby had members from Salt Spring Island, Washington State, Calgary, and Kamloops to name a few, join in on the fishing action. They even had 4 youth from the next generation including Mr. Johnston’s son Rory along for the ride.
Everyone received a prize for participating in the derby ranging from survival kit water bottles to cooler radios and barbeque tool kits. There was a winner though and Bruce Birchall took home the prize. He won a fishing vacation for two at Painter’s Lodge with his 20.9 Lb. Chinook salmon. John Moore took home the second prize with his 18.6 Lb. salmon, winning an all day fishing trip out of Port Renfrew.
Again, I am amazed by the loyalty of our returning customers time and time again. I wish you all tight lines on this sunny day.
From the bridge,
