Dock Talk

The Codfather

Canadian Princess Resort - July 7, 2012

It was an afternoon bottom fishing trip like any other aboard the Ucluelet Princess on Friday.  I’m not sure what Irene Halvorson was using for bait but she gave that monster ‘an offer he could not refuse’ and reeled up a 38 pound 2 ounce Lingcod we’ve dubbed The Codfather.

“At first I thought I was just hooked on the bottom,” Irene told our staff at the Canadian Princess Resort.  “So I gave the rod to our Skipper Lynette, but she just handed it right back!”

It took about 20 minutes to land the fish and that created an hour of fun at the dock when their boat, the Chinook Princess, returned to the resort.  You can’t have The Codfather on the dock and not take advantage of the photo opportunity.  Check out some of our favourite photos!

Irene was fishing with her husband and two children.  Her family have been fishing with the Canadian Princess for over 15 years.

“I love it!” shared Irene.  “We’ve been coming here since before the children were born.”

This mob boss of a fish was not the only catch that flooded the docks with excitement over the last few days.  We had a season record breaking Halibut weighing 60lbs-07oz come in that same day.  Read the previous blog for that story!
