Big Hali Takes the Lead

Canadian Princess Resort - May 7, 2008

Vancouver Island halibut fishingWe have a new May Madness leader for halibut! Bob Burke is now leading with a 42 pounder.

Guest were thrilled with all the wildlife they are seeing on their fishing trips. Lots of whales breaching this time of the year. It’s like getting a wildlife tour plus a fishing trip in one.

On the weather front, the sun has been shining on us for the past couple of days. It has been a little chilly in the mornings so bundle up.

Fish on and tight lines,

We have a tie for Chinook at 20 lbs, with fish caught by both Kathy Ladyka & Judy Sopel on the Raven Princess under the expert guidence of Russell Thornton.

Our May Madness derby is now in full swing with 10 lb halibut caught by Doug Croxen. The Chinook is being held by Jake Giesbrecht a 20 lb Chinook which ties the season record.

Big fish on opening day!

Canadian Princess Resort - April 28, 2008

Salmon fishing started off with a bang!A new season is now upon us!

Opening day at the Canadian Princess was great. We started the season off with 105 students on our Wildlife Nature Cruises and they were thrilled with all the wild life they saw, including whales swimming by very close to the boat.

Fishing boats found a few nice fish to start off the season. On opening day the fish-of-the-day were a 16 lb. Chinook and a 23 lb. halibut. On the second day of the season we had a 21 lb. Chinook weighed-in.

Weather for the next three days looks like light rain turning sunny on Wednesday.

Fish on and tight lines!

Halibut license updates for US guests

Canadian Princess Resort - February 25, 2008

The Dept. of Fisheries and Oceans has changed some of the policies for US and other non-Canadian guests wishing to fish for halibut where the Canadian Princess fishes.

Starting this year, thoses guests must have an old-fashioned paper fishing license, not an electronic one. What does that mean for you? Not too much. We always ask guests when they check-in if they need a fishing license and it only takes a minute to get one.

We’re already getting geared up for a hot fishing season. If you haven’t booked your trip yet call us at 1-800-663-7090 so we can reserve your space.

Tight lines,
The Canadian Princess Crew

6 x 35

Canadian Princess Resort - August 23, 2007

With interesting weather comes interesting fishing. The rainy days we've had have been paired with some of the best fishing all year including a tonne of halibut coming in.

As the fog rolled in the halibut were still coming in and some Coho, too. As the sun came out the fish dipped but it was back with a vengeance when six 35 lb. plus Chinooks came in on a single day.

As the season comes to a close, fishing is still staying strong in the hali department as well as ling cod. Chinook had its run but is slowing down to make way for the fesity Coho.

Hali abound

Canadian Princess Resort - August 15, 2007

Fishing has really picked up in the past few days with significant numbers of hali and salmon coming in.

Hali fishing has been unusually strong for the end of the season but you won't hear any of the anglers up here complain about it. We’re still waiting for a whopper over 100 lbs. to come in—you still have a chance to earn your place in the hall of fame.

Salmon fishing really picked up last night and continued to stay strong for the day. It's mostly Coho being caught out there and quite a number of Pinks. Chinook aren't biting as often, but theones that do are 20+ lbs.

Great hali in August!

Canadian Princess Resort - August 8, 2007

It's been another week of great halibut fishing here in Ucluelet. We've seen anywhere between 50-120 coming in per day which is stellar for this time of year. Many of the boats are limiting out on their hali catches and are able to spend a couple hours salmon fishing as well.

Pink salmon are still coming in and with some size, too, which is a little unusual based on the weights from previous years. Compared to other years, these are monsters.

And apparently some of the captains know something we don't because they've found some nice spots with a lot of Springs. A few boats were 2 or 3 away from there limits which is really nice to see.

Things are still going strong up here so come on up and catch some fish!

Hot times at the CP

Canadian Princess Resort - August 3, 2007

It’s been one heckuva week up here on Vancouver Island’s west coast.

The halibut fishing is still coming on strong with catches from the mid 30s to mid 60s crossing the docks—the perfect size for the barbeque. Fishing for Lings and other bottom fish is simply unreal. We’re seeing big sizes and plenty of fish.

Chinook salmon fishing is strong, too. Anglers have been battling fish up to 26 lbs. over the past few days. And the water is thick with Coho!

If you haven’t booked your summer fishing trip you’d better get on it. Fishing at the Canadian Princess is hot!

Pink salmon have arrived

Canadian Princess Resort - July 30, 2007

Pink salmon have shown up out here on Vancouver Island's west coast and they've been in full force for the past week. Better late than never…

Chinook action has cooled a bit but the onces we're seeing are often between 20 and 30 lbs. Coho fishing is still going strong and we're still seeing alot of numbers coming in.

If you're looking for a bit of action, halibut fishing is the way to go. We're getting great hauls each day with multiple 50 lb. halis coming in daily. Bottom fishing is still the same as always: amazing.

Fortunatly, most days here have been quite nice and the wind has been fairly agreeable. After a period of nasty weather the sun has come back but bring your rain gear just in case…

Coho, Coho, Coho

Canadian Princess Resort - July 24, 2007

A weather system has come in and brought some choppy seas with it. Of course, it didn’t stop our guests from getting to calmer fishing grounds for a nice day of fishing.

As the seas died down the fishing picked up significantly. Coho have really on the rise these days with some boats seeing upwards of 30 a day with close to an even split between wild and hatchery.

Springs are not so common but we did have a pair come in today that were both over 30 lbs!

Halibut fishing is still going strong with dozens coming in each day and there have been quite a few between 30 and 70 lbs.

As for the next few days, weather is supposed to be quite nice so let’s hope for the best for all the fisherman.
