Congratulations to Carol Frahm for catching a fish in the Ucluelet Salmon Ladder Derby! Carol was a guest of the Canadian Princess Resort, visiting Ucluelet from Lacey, Washington. Her Chinook salmon weighed 27lbs-04oz and was caught out at Starfish Bank.
This year, the Ucluelet Salmon Ladder Derby is inviting ALL anglers who make the top 65 fish of the month to the big Fish Off on September 7th and 8th. The odds are in your favour, and chances are if you get a fish on the August ladder you are heading to the Fish Off! That means our guest Carol, who currently sits in 15th place on the ladder, will be invited back to compete in the Fish Off.
Participants in the Fish Off will have the opportunity to win major cash and prizes. The derby’s goal for first place is $10,000 cash (this amount is dependent on ticket sales). Plus, new to 2012 is the $250, 000 Hidden Weight Grand Prize. If a regular day of fishing in Ucluelet is incentive enough for a return visit, I’m sure a quarter of a million dollars is!
The Ucluelet Salmon Ladder Derby is a season long derby that rewards huge cash and prizes to anglers who bring in the big fish on a monthly basis. The top 15 fish of each month are invited to the Fish Off, along with the top 65 of the summer and now the top 65 in August too! The Fish Off wraps up with the Ucluelet Salmon Festival, a fun event for the community and visitors alike!
All net proceeds of this derby and of the salmon festival go to support local salmon enhancement projects on the west coast, specifically our local Thornton Creek Hatchery.
The Canadian Princess Resort is proud to be a sponsor of the Ucluelet Salmon Ladder Derby and of the Ucluelet Salmon Festival. We wish Carol Frahm the best of luck and hope she is able to come back to fish with us in the Fish Off!
