He told us that he had “dabbled in lake fishing” before but had never been fishing out on the ocean. Jordan and Fred West were fishing on the Boston Whaler Outrage #3 with Skipper Kyle yesterday morning. This father-son team were visiting from Surrey.
“I have visited Ucluelet many times before but I have never been fishing out here,” said Jordan West. He told us that he hadn’t been fishing at all since he was a little kid.
He hauled up a Tyee salmon that weighed a 32lbs-03oz Chinook. That's not bad for a first time salt water fisherman!
Jordan weighed his Catch of the Day into the Ucluelet Salmon Ladder Derby. It was heavy enough to get on the third rung and he is currently in the running for August’s third place prize which is valued at $1000 in cash and prizes. The Ucluelet Salmon Ladder Derby closes at sunset on September 3rd. That means Jordan only has one week to hold his spot and take home the prize!
He is also automatically invited back to the Fish Off on September 7th and 8th. He has a chance of winning the $250,000 Hidden Weight Grand Prize or thousands in cash and prizes. We look forward to hosting Jordan’s fishing adventure during the Fish Off!
The Ucluelet Salmon Ladder Derby is wrapping up with the 3rd Annual Ucluelet Salmon Festival on Sunday, September 9th. This community event will have a salmon barbeque, live music, beer gardens, children’s activities, and the closing ceremonies for the derby. If you’re in town for that weekend make sure you don’t miss it!
Remember, you still have a chance to qualify for the Fish Off. They are inviting all of the qualifying fish in August to the Fish Off. That means there are 65 spots total and one of them could have your name on it. All you need to do is come out to the Canadian Princess and drop a line!
