It was an unbelievable season for us out here on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. There were some of the largest runs of salmon I have ever seen pass through this area, and halibut fishing was very strong as well.
The Canadian Princess was bustling throughout the summer, and with all ten boats hitting the water many days, you could feel the excitment. For the crew, the summer seemed to fly by.
Our large fish catches this year were also outstanding with many “Tyee” salmon over the thirty pound mark and a Masterfisherman-worthy halibut over the one hundred pounds. Here are some of the top catches from the 2005 season...
- 46 pounds — Jim Tribble
- 40 pounds — Mary Pete
- 39 pounds — Ron Ross
- 39 pounds — Bev Parish
- 17 pounds — Mike Mitchell
- 17 pounds — Mandy Woodrow
- 122 pounds — Brane Dragutinovic
- 91 pounds — Geoff Zakaib
- 85 pounds — Wesley Van Dusen
- 73 pounds — Steve Meske
I also would like to personally thank all the staff at the Canadian Princess and Wickanninish Restaurant for the extremely hard work they have done during the 2005 season. The boat crew, without whom we wouldn’t be much of a fishing resort, excelled at their job this year, led up by their Fleet Captains Eddy Arsenault and Kevin Abbott. Carla Bennett, our Fish Master, and her crew of dckhands made sure everyone got the fish they caught.
Chinook were strong, Coho were fast, and the halibut were heavy. It’s been great!
See you next year!!
